Book Review and Giveaway: Rowan's Learn to Crochet Sampler Afghan

Today I will talk a little bit about Laurinda Reddig's latest book Rowan's Learn to Crochet Sampler Afghan.  Laurinda is a very talented crochet designer and teacher. You can find her beautiful blog ReCrochetions right over *here*.

I'm giving away a free copy of the book today--

so keep reading to find out more!

If you are following my blog for a while now, you may remember my first blanket and how I have enjoyed making it. With the help of this book you are able to make one of your own now too!

Skill level:
If you want to learn to crochet and you just need someone who takes you by the hand and teaches you everything from the very beginning this is the perfect book for you. But also more experienced crocheters will find a lot of new stitches to learn.
You are learning to make 16 different stitches to create the 16 sampler squares for the afghan. Laurinda walks you through all the ways to insert your hook into the stitches to create the most common stitches including basic stitches, combination stitches and textured stitches. All very well explained along with 30 step-by-step photo tutorials for every stitch. In addition to this Laurinda is teaching you how to read crochet patterns by explaining all of the common things, you will find in other crochet patterns. You also learn to make 4 easy baby blankets with 4 different edgings and how to work in the round to crochet a cute little baby hat.
What I really like about this book is, that you have all the information you need for making this beautiful afghan in one book. You can take the book, some yarn and a crochet hook, cuddle on your couch and you are done. I remember, when I started to crochet, I sat in front of my computer most of the time, because I had to look up every stitch which was used in my pattern. But here Laurinda guides you through all the steps of afghan-making from how to make a slip knot to how to block the squares and sew them all together. And if you don't want to make a complete afghan, you can use the stitches you have learned for other fun projects like dishcloths or potholders or whatever comes to your mind!
My projects from the book:

Rey of Sunshine Blanket
Treya's Treasure Blanket
some washcloths
some potholders
and two baby hats

Bunny Girl at the beach

We are back from our summer holidays at the sea  and there are still a few days left until the school starts again next week. We were so lucky with the weather this year and enjoyed every minute of our trip.
I took little bunny girl with us, because I wanted to take some pictures for the Little Cotton Rabbits Ravelry Group Photo Contest. It doesn´t matter that my picture didn't won, because we had so much fun taking the pictures of her. I really want to do this again some time!
So, do you want to see them?

Bunny Girl was so excited to see the ocean for the first time,

that it was hard to take a picture of her!

She was running around exploring everything, even the roof of our beach tent.

At first she was a bit anxious and didn't want to touch the water..

but after a while she enjoyed it a lot!

She also loved to make sand-angels,

and little boat trips with my son!

But the most fun for her was making sand castles with us!

So finally, my entry for the contest! :)

Thank you so much for your visit today!
Please come back next time, I'm having a GIVEAWAY!!
Alles Liebe!

New beginnings...

I couldn't resist, I have started a new blanket last week! I just can't help it, crochet blankets are my favourite things to make!  It is going to be a simple granny square cover for my sons bed. I took him over to the yarn shop  and let him select the colours. He chose a lots of greens and blues, but also red and pink, which I didn't expect, but really love! :) This blanket will be my new one-a-day project, as I will make only one square in the evening and join it as I go. So it will take me around 18 weeks to finish it, but hey, there is no hurry!

And this leaves me some time for other things, like finishing all Christmas presents before December (hopefully!!) I'm planning to give everybody in my family a handmade gift this year. And the first one is already finished! I made a water-bottle cover for my little sister. I hope she will like it! I have used this pattern here, and just made it a little longer to cover the bottle and add a few rows of ribbing.

And finally, I have started to use my sewing machine! The poor thing is waiting to get used for more than a year now and I was simply to scared to start. Last week I thought why not doing it like I have learned to crochet and knit, starting with easy little things and leave the complicated stuff for later.
I found  this pocket tissue holder tutorial for a start and it was really easy to do!
Summer holidays have started here this week and I'm looking forward to a lot of time outdoors exploring the nature with my little son!

Take care everybody and thank you so much for reading!!

Little Flower Baby Blanket

My little flower blanket is finished!!! Oh, I had a lot of fun making it!  And I haven't bought any yarn for this, which will please my husband a lot! Ok, my Catania Cotton stash is quite big! I just love this yarn and every time I see a new colour at our yarn store, I can't resist buying it without even knowing what to do with the yarn later.
My favourite part in blanket making is arranging the squares in the end and testing  different square combinations. This is always so much fun! And it doesn't matter to me, that the squares always end up in a different order after sewing them all together. Every time I mess this  up!  For the first time I have used the colour grey for a blanket and I really liked it.
36 squares with 22 different colours

my final arrangement ??

before washing and blocking

I have tried out different fancy edgings for the blanket, but I liked the simple shell border the most!
done :)

Yarn: Schachenmayr Catania Solids 100% Cotton
Pattern: my own, you can find it here

Thank you so much for your visit today! I hope you all will have a great weekend!

Knitted Toy Love

I'm learning something new at the moment! I'm knitting little animals! I always wanted to learn that, but wasn't sure if I could do it. A few weeks ago, I had a day off, kid and husband free, so I sat down and tried! I have started with Susan's wonderful 'CORNISH Mice' pattern and had so much fun, that I can't stop making them! :) I love to knit all those cute clothes and shoes and dress them up.
For Mothers Day, I treated myself with the newest pattern from Julie from Little Cotton Rabbits. My bunny girl is not as perfect as Julies original, but I love her a lot.  I guess, you will see a lot more animals here in the future.

In my last post I have shown you my little flowers! And this is what I'm going to do with them! I have started a new baby-blanket using my Little Flower Square pattern! I will show you more of it in my next post.

Before I go, I have to show you my front view! This is what I see while I'm brushing my teeth at  the moment! I can't get enough of all that yellowness everywhere and this wonderful smell around the house.

Thank you so much for visiting me here today!
I hope you all will have a wonderful time!
